Description
A combined PIR motion sensor and magnetic contact sensor (SM301) in a single WiFi device. Plug-in design means no battery to replace – just connect to a USB power source and pair to your WiFi. Triggers on either motion in its field of view or a door / window opening, and reports both events to your phone via the Tuya / SmartLife app.
Direct WiFi connection. No hub or bridge needed. Voice notifications can be set up via Alexa or Google Home.
Why 2-in-1 vs separate sensors
- Faster install – one device to pair, one device to mount, one device to power.
- Faster automation – the same controller fires off both a motion event and a door event with the same internal clock, so you can build “door opened and then motion detected” rules without dealing with two devices’ clock drift.
- Useful at choke points – the front door, the garage door, a child’s bedroom – places where you want both an opening alert and a follow-up motion alert.
Practical uses
- Front door arrival monitoring – know when someone enters, even if you’re not home. Door opens → motion detected inside.
- Granny annex / lodger room – non-intrusive check that someone is up and moving in the morning.
- Garage / shed security – the cleanest single-device way to monitor both door and interior motion at the same time.
- Kid’s room curfew – know if a bedroom door opens after lights out.
- Holiday home / second property monitoring – the single most useful sensor in a property no one is at every day.
Event history
The SM301 logs detected events to the Tuya cloud. You can scroll back through the history in the SmartLife app to see exactly when motion was detected or the door was opened. Useful for retrospectively investigating unusual events (“did the back door open at 2am?”) and tuning automations.
Setup walkthrough
- Plug the sensor into a USB power source (any standard USB port or 5V mains adapter).
- The status LED flashes – pairing mode.
- Open the SmartLife or Tuya app, tap “+”, choose “Security & Video Sensor” → “Motion Sensor”.
- Enter 2.4 GHz WiFi credentials.
- Wait 30-60 seconds for pairing.
- Position the device: mount on the door frame or near the doorway, with the PIR field of view pointed at the area to monitor.
- Configure motion-triggered notifications and history retention in the app.
A bit limited. Unlike other models does not make a sound on detection but works well and shows history on phone
