Description
A WiFi smart thermostat for UK electric underfloor heating. Replaces an existing manual or basic digital thermostat in a single-gang back box. Adds 5+1+1 weekly scheduling, remote control from anywhere, voice control via Alexa and Google Home, and real-time energy usage tracking – all through the Tuya / SmartLife app.
Connects directly to your home WiFi. No hub or bridge needed. Works with electric underfloor heating mats and cables up to 16A (3,600W) – suitable for most domestic UK underfloor heating installations. Pairs with a floor probe (included) for accurate floor-temperature sensing.
What it controls
- Electric underfloor heating mats (the wire-mesh kind most often used in bathrooms, kitchens, and conservatories).
- Electric underfloor heating cables (the loose-cable kind often used in retrofit installations).
- Electric panel radiators / towel rails wired through it (within the 16A load limit).
Not designed for wet underfloor heating (water-based systems run from a boiler). For water UFH, a dedicated wet UFH controller is required.
5+1+1 weekly scheduling
The schedule is split into a weekday programme (Mon-Fri) and two separate weekend days (Sat, Sun). Each day has four programmable periods – typically used as: wake-up, daytime (out), evening (back home), and night. So a typical schedule might look like:
- 06:30 – 21°C (wake-up warm bathroom)
- 08:00 – 16°C (out at work)
- 17:30 – 22°C (home, evening relaxation)
- 22:30 – 17°C (overnight)
Each period’s temperature is independently configurable. Weekends can have completely different schedules from weekdays. Manual override is always available – use the touchscreen or the app to set a temporary boost.
Voice control
Once paired to WiFi via the SmartLife or Tuya app, link to Alexa or Google Home:
- “Alexa, set the bathroom floor to 22 degrees”
- “Hey Google, what’s the bathroom floor temperature?”
- “Alexa, turn off the underfloor heating”
Installation
Fits a standard UK 35mm-deep single back box. Wired as a switch-loop replacement of the existing thermostat:
- Live in
- Neutral in
- Earth in
- Switched live out to the heating mat / cable
- Floor probe – two cable cores from the floor probe (which sits in the screed alongside the heating cable)
Safety: Always isolate the circuit at the consumer unit before working on mains wiring. Underfloor heating circuits are typically on a 16A dedicated RCBO – check before working. UK Part P may apply – use a qualified electrician if unsure.
Setup walkthrough
- Install and power the thermostat.
- The screen shows the pairing icon flashing.
- Open SmartLife or Tuya app, tap “+”, choose “Small Home Appliances” → “Thermostat”.
- Enter 2.4 GHz WiFi credentials (not 5 GHz – the controller does not support 5 GHz).
- Wait 30-60 seconds for pairing to complete.
- In the app, set the time zone, configure the weekly schedule, and optionally link to Alexa / Google Home.
