What Is a Zigbee Dimmer?

What about a Matter dimmer instead?
Matter is a newer cross-vendor smart home standard that runs over Thread (a low-power mesh similar in spirit to Zigbee). Where a Zigbee dimmer needs a vendor-specific hub or coordinator, a Matter Over Thread dimmer pairs directly with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings – no Hue Bridge, no SkyConnect dongle, no third-party app. Local control, no cloud lock-in, and the same instant-response feel as Zigbee.
The trade-off is ecosystem maturity. Zigbee has had a decade to settle and your existing hub almost certainly speaks it. Matter is newer, so reliability across edge cases (long-press behaviour, multi-controller scenes, automation triggers) is still catching up.
