Voltage Flexibility: With a broad input and output voltage range of 100-240VAC, it caters to diverse power needs.

Versatile Load Support: Efficiently handle resistive, capacitive, or inductive loads. A retractive switch is essential for optimal performance.

High Capacity: Offering a single channel output, it supports up to a whopping 400W.

Reliable Terminals: Ensure safety and a sturdy connection with the screw terminals for both input and output.

Factory-Defined Settings: Benefit from the trailing-edge version, preset at the factory, ensuring peak performance.

Granular Control: Dictate the ON/OFF state and modulate the luminosity of the connected lighting.

Simplified Pairing: As a ZigBee router device, it supports Touchlink commissioning, enabling direct pairing with compatible Zigbee remotes sans a coordinator.

Self-Reliant Networking: Form a Zigbee network autonomously without a coordinator, and automatically join other devices.

Optimized Binding: It not only supports the find-and-bind mode for ZigBee remotes but also champions Zigbee’s green power, accommodating up to 20 green power remotes.

Compact & Functional: Its mini dimensions allow for snug fitting within a standard 86*86mm wall box.

Energy Monitoring: Stay informed with active power and energy metering capabilities.

Wiring Versatility: Flexibility to wire with or without a neutral wire. Can be used in 2-way wiring with retractive/momentary/push or standard on/off toggle switches.

Smart Illumination: Set minimum dimming levels, startup brightness, and use the built-in light source detection algorithm.

Frequency & Safety: Operates on a 2.4GHz radio frequency and designed with a waterproof grade of IP20, ensuring safety and stability.

Supported Zigbee clusters:

Input Zigbee clusters:
0x0000: Basic
0x0003: Identify
0x0004: Groups
0x0005: Scenes
0x0006: On/off

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the SM309-S need a neutral wire?

No, the SM309-S is a no-neutral Zigbee dimmer module — it installs with just live and switch wires, making it ideal for older UK homes without neutrals at the switch position.

Where does the SM309-S install?

The SM309-S can be installed inside the back box behind your existing UK light switch or in the ceiling rose behind or inside your light fittings. At roughly 45mm × 45mm × 18mm it fits a standard 35mm UK back box alongside the original switch.

What load can the SM309-S handle?

The SM309-S handles 3W to 200W of dimmable LED or 250W halogen or incandescent loads. For loads under 5W with no neutral wiring, the SM107 bypass capacitor may be required for flicker-free dimming.

Does the SM309-S work with retractive switches?

Yes, the SM309-S is designed for use with retractive (momentary push) switches for full Zigbee dimming control by pressing and holding the light switch retractive button. Standard rocker switches are also supported allowing on/off physical lights control (no dimming).

Which smart home platforms support the SM309-S?

The SM309-S uses native Zigbee 3.0 protocol — it pairs with Home Assistant (ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT), SmartThings, Hubitat, and any Zigbee 3.0 coordinator. No proprietary hub or cloud account is required.

Is the SM309 still the current model?

No — the SM309 has been superseded by the SM309-S, which is the current smaller size module in the Samotech in-line Zigbee dimmer range.

How do I reset or pair an existing SM309-S?

To reset the SM309-S, press the reset button five times. To initiate Touchlink pairing without a reset, press the button four times. Then add it through your Zigbee gateway’s standard "add new device" flow. If pairing fails, ensure the dimmer is not already in your hub’s device list — remove it first if so.

Can my SM309-S be linked to multiple remotes?

Yes. The SM309-S can be linked to and controlled by up to 30 Zigbee remotes that support Zigbee Light Link via Touchlink. It also supports Zigbee Green Power and can be bound with up to 20 Green Power remotes directly, without a hub or gateway.

Works well with SmartThings hub using generic device handler (ZigBee Dimmer). Works well with Ikea dimmable LEDs (various). Very low minimum light level may be achieved. No blinking of LEDs at all. 6 of them fitted in all my house ceiling lights behind momentary switches on the walls, but had to replace shallow boxes for deep 47mm Dry Lining Boxes to accommodate all extra wires and Wago connectors. Automation works well with Xiaomi-Aqara motion sensors. Product I was looking for, for almost a year, but price could be smaller. Recommended!

  3. Great module. Used with a 2-way on/off toggle light switch, no neutral setup. Linked to remote panel to control dimming using ZigBee 3.0. Works perfectly also with a 1gang/1way switch.

  7. Very easy to set up, would be nice if it could instantly power on lights to full brightness instead of dimming up, but otherwise no issues.
