Do I need a hub?

No hub is required. Matter devices connect directly over Thread or Wi-Fi. For Thread-based devices, a Thread border router is recommended — a HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, Google Nest Hub 2nd gen, or Echo 4th gen all qualify.

Can I use it with multiple platforms at the same time?

Yes — this is one of Matter’s key advantages. A single device can be added to Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa simultaneously without factory resetting between additions.

Does the dimmer need a neutral wire?

The Matter Dimmer Switch works without a neutral wire — ideal for standard UK 2-wire lighting circuits. The Matter inline modules require a neutral at the installation point.

How does Matter differ from Zigbee?
