Zigbee mmWave Presence Sensor – SmartThings & Home Assistant

(1 customer review)

£18.14£23.93

Zigbee Presence sensors – millimetre-wave radar detects movement and static presence. Real-time alerts via Home Assistant.

  • Millimetre-wave radar – detects both motion and static presence (someone sitting still), unlike a basic PIR
  • Native Zigbee 3.0 – pairs with Home Assistant (Z2M, ZHA), SmartThings, Hubitat and any Zigbee 3.0 hub
  • Real-time presence events for accurate occupancy automations
  • Ideal for replacing PIR-based lighting where false-off when sitting still is a problem
  • Wall or ceiling mounted with a low-profile housing

Description

Use a new level of safety and energy efficiency with Zigbee Presence Sensors. Engineered for diverse applications, this device can be integrated into lighting systems, home appliances, security setups, hotels, garages, buildings, transportation, IoT, and more!

This smart sensor employs advanced millimeter-wave radar technology to detect both human movement and static presence, offering unparalleled accuracy and sensitivity. It’s not just about detection; it’s about protecting your space. Be it your personal home, office, retail shop, or industrial environment, our sensor acts as a vigilant guard, identifying intruders and ensuring your security.

The benefits extend beyond security. Our Zigbee Presence Sensors also contribute to energy conservation. By identifying both moving and non-moving people, it smartly controls lighting conditions, turning lights on when presence is detected, and off when the area is unoccupied.

Receive real-time alerts, view historical records, and stay informed about the status of your premises at all times. Our Zigbee Presence Sensor – offering you convenience, security, and energy efficiency all in one!

A 24 GHz microwave presence sensor operates using low-power microwave radar technology to detect movement and presence. These sensors are commonly used in smart homes, offices, and security systems. Concerns about health effects from microwave radiation often arise, but in the case of these sensors, the radiation levels are extremely low, well below the safety limits set by international guidelines.

Non-ionizing Radiation: The 24 GHz frequency used by microwave presence sensors emits non-ionizing radiation, which means it doesn’t have enough energy to remove electrons from atoms or damage DNA, unlike ionizing radiation (e.g., X-rays or gamma rays). Non-ionizing radiation is generally considered safe for human exposure at low power levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a Presence Sensor different from a regular PIR motion sensor?

A PIR motion sensor only detects movement — it goes back to "no occupancy" the moment someone stops moving. The Samotech Zigbee Presence Sensor uses 24GHz millimetre-wave radar technology to detect both moving and static (still) human presence — so it knows you’re still in the room when you’re reading or watching TV, keeping lights and HVAC in the right state.

Which variants are available?

Two variants: the ZY-M100-USB (USB-powered, 65 × 65 × 12 mm, 5V USB Type-C) for tabletop or wall mounting, and the ZY-M100-CEILING (mains-powered, 62 × 62 × 39 mm, AC 80–240V, ~55mm ceiling cut-out) for permanent ceiling installation.

What’s the detection range?

Both variants have a motion sensing radius of 5–7 metres, with photosensitivity up to 2000 lux for combining presence detection with light-level conditions.

Which platforms is the presence sensor compatible with?

The sensor uses Zigbee 3.0 and is compatible with the Tuya Zigbee Hub and Home Assistant via Zigbee2MQTT (Z2M) or ZHA (a custom quirk is required for ZHA).

What’s the wiring requirement for the ceiling variant?

The ZY-M100-CEILING variant requires Live + Neutral (L+N) wiring at the ceiling location. The USB variant powers from any 5V USB Type-C source — no mains wiring required.

Is microwave radar safe? What about radiation concerns?

Yes. The 24GHz frequency emits non-ionising radiation, which lacks the energy to damage DNA (unlike X-rays or gamma rays). Power levels in the sensor are extremely low — well below safety limits set by international guidelines, making it safe for everyday human exposure.

What automations can I trigger with the presence sensor?

Through your Zigbee hub, presence events trigger any automation your platform supports — keep lights on while occupied, switch off heating when room is empty, manage HVAC by occupancy, send security alerts, or any combination. The sensor is suitable for homes, offices, retail, hotels, garages, and industrial environments.
