A WiFi-controlled UK 13A wall socket that replaces an existing standard outlet. Unlike a plug-in smart plug, this is a complete socket replacement that fits into a standard UK back box and sits flush with the wall. App and voice control via the Tuya / SmartLife app, Alexa, and Google Home – directly over your home WiFi, no hub or bridge needed.
Different from our plug-in WiFi smart plug: this one is hardwired and replaces the entire socket. For wired-in smart switching at the point of supply (whole appliance switched at the socket level), with a clean appearance and no protruding plug body.
When this is the right product
A smart wall socket makes sense when:
- Aesthetics matter – the plug-in smart plug sticks out about 30 mm from the wall. A replacement socket is flush. Cleaner in living areas, kitchens, and bedrooms.
- The appliance is permanent – fridges, freezers, washing machines, TVs that won’t be moved. Switching at the wall is fine for these.
- Multiple appliances need switching together – a double-gang version lets you control two outlets independently from one back box.
- You don’t want plug-ins available at a public-facing socket – built-in smart switching prevents kids or guests from unplugging the smart plug.
If you want a moveable, removable smart outlet, the plug-in WiFi Smart Plug is a better choice.
Voice and app control
Pairs to your WiFi via the Tuya or SmartLife app (same backend, two names). Once paired, link the app to Alexa or Google Home for voice control:
- Alexa – “Alexa, turn off the lounge socket” / “Alexa, set the bedroom socket schedule”
- Google Home – “Hey Google, turn on the kitchen socket” / “Hey Google, what’s the status of the office socket”
- SmartLife / Tuya app – manual on/off, scheduling, scenes, away-from-home control
Built-in safety
Built-in surge protection diverts voltage spikes (caused by lightning strikes, motor switching, or grid disturbances) away from the load. Overload protection trips the socket if a connected appliance draws more than 13A continuously, protecting both the wiring and the appliance.
This is a Tuya-platform device. Surge and overload protection are inherent hardware features and continue to work even if WiFi is unavailable.
Installation
Fits a standard UK 25mm or deeper single back box. Wiring is identical to a standard socket: live, neutral, earth.
Important: Wall socket replacement is mains electrical work. Always isolate the circuit at the consumer unit before working. If you are not confident with mains wiring, hire a qualified electrician. In the UK, this work falls under Part P building regulations and may be notifiable in some circumstances – check the regulations for your specific situation.
Pairing setup
- Install and power the socket (isolate circuit first).
- The indicator light flashes – pairing mode.
- Open the SmartLife or Tuya app, tap “+”, choose “Socket”.
- Enter your 2.4 GHz WiFi credentials (not 5 GHz – the controller does not support 5 GHz networks).
- Wait 30-60 seconds for the connection to complete.
- Optional: enable the Smart Life or Tuya skill in Alexa / Google Home, discover devices.

I have not really had the chance to use this socket yet. The build quality is fine for a plastic type socket.

No issues during setup
I’m using this WiFi socket for my electric heater, and it’s amazing how much control it gives me over energy usage. Plus, scheduling features mean I never forget to turn it off.
This device requires 2.4 GHZ WI-FI when most Wi-Fi systems today are 5 GHZ. I was ready to send it back, when luckily, I figured out that my Wi-Fi router can mimic 2.4 GHZ for this type of installation.
