Smart Water / Gas Shut-Off Valve UK – Remote & Leak-Triggered (WiFi or Zigbee)

(2 customer reviews)

£18.33£19.78

A smart shut-off valve for UK water or gas mains pipes – fits over the existing manual valve handle and rotates it electrically on command. Remote on/off from your phone via the Tuya / SmartLife app, plus automatic shut-off triggered by our smart water leak detector. Available in WiFi and Zigbee variants. Sized to fit 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″ valves (variant-dependent).

  • Fits over your existing manual water or gas valve – no plumbing changes needed
  • Available in WiFi (Tuya / Smart Life) or Zigbee (Home Assistant) variants
  • Automatic shut-off when paired with a smart water leak detector – instant response to leaks
  • Remote control from the app – shut off the water when you’re away on holiday
  • Available in multiple valve sizes (1/2″, 3/4″, 1″) to match your existing mains plumbing

A smart shut-off valve actuator (model SM103) that mounts over an existing manual water or gas valve and rotates the handle electrically on command. Combined with our smart leak detector, automatically closes the supply within seconds of a leak being detected – preventing the kind of water damage that causes thousands of pounds in property damage claims every year.

Two variants available:

  • WiFi variant – direct connection to your home WiFi via Tuya / SmartLife. No hub needed. Voice control via Alexa and Google Home.
  • Zigbee variant – local control via Home Assistant (Zigbee2MQTT / ZHA), SmartThings, Hubitat or any Zigbee 3.0 hub. No cloud dependency.

Why a smart shut-off valve matters

Escape of water is the #1 cause of UK domestic insurance claims by frequency and the most common source of large repair bills. Typical causes:

  • Burst washing machine or dishwasher hose
  • Frozen pipe rupture (winter freeze-thaw)
  • Failed cold water storage tank float valve in the loft
  • Bathroom flexi-hose failure on basin or shower
  • Boiler condensate drain blockage
  • Toilet inlet overflow

A leak detector alone gives you a phone notification, but you still have to be home (or call someone home) to close the mains. The smart valve eliminates that gap: detection and shut-off happen automatically, in seconds.

How the automation works

  1. Smart leak detector (placed under sink, behind washing machine, near boiler, etc.) detects water and reports to your hub.
  2. Hub triggers an automation: “leak sensor wet → close shut-off valve”.
  3. Valve receives the command and mechanically rotates the existing manual valve handle to the closed position.
  4. Optional: phone notification, smart speaker announcement, smart lights flashing red.

End-to-end response from detection to valve closed is typically 3-8 seconds.

Installation

The valve clamps over an existing manual ball valve handle – does not require cutting into the pipe. Compatible with standard UK 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″ ball valves (specific variant determines size). Installation steps:

  1. Identify the manual shut-off valve to fit it on (water mains stopcock, gas inlet valve, or appliance isolation valve).
  2. Position the actuator unit over the existing valve handle.
  3. Tighten the mounting clamp around the pipe.
  4. Power the unit using the supplied USB cable (USB plug not included).
  5. Pair to your hub (Zigbee variant) or WiFi (WiFi variant) following the pairing procedure.

No plumbing work needed. No certified gas engineer required for fitting (the valve does not interrupt the gas line itself – it only operates the existing handle).

Gas valve note

Suitable for low-pressure domestic gas applications where a remote-operated shut-off is required (e.g. integration with a smart gas leak sensor). Always verify suitability with your gas supplier or a Gas Safe registered engineer before installation. The actuator operates an existing manual valve – it is not itself a gas-rated valve.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Samotech Smart Water/Gas Shut-Off Valve do?

The smart valve gives you remote control over your water or gas supply from your phone. You can shut the supply off manually from anywhere, set automated schedules, or pair it with smart leak sensors so it shuts off automatically the moment a leak is detected.

How does the valve install on my plumbing?

The valve fits on top of an existing lever-style ball valve — no plumbing work or pipe cutting is required. It rotates the lever between open and closed using its built-in motor (rated 30–60 kg·cm torque, 1.6 MPa working pressure). Once mounted, connect it to your 2.4GHz WiFi network.

Which apps and platforms work with the valve?

The valve works through the Tuya / Smart Life app and is voice-controllable via Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT. It can also be integrated with Home Assistant alongside Tuya-compatible leak sensors.

Can it shut off automatically when a leak is detected?

Yes. Pair the valve with Tuya-compatible water-leak sensors and configure an automation in the Tuya / Smart Life app — the valve will close automatically the moment a sensor detects water, protecting your home before damage spreads.

What happens during a power cut?

The valve includes a manual pull ring on the body, allowing you to open or close the valve by hand if power is lost. The valve’s state stays as it was at the time of the power cut until the pull ring or power restoration moves it.

How long does it take to open or close?

The valve takes 5–10 seconds to fully open or close, depending on the position it starts from.

What working voltage and pressure rating does it support?

The valve operates on 220V mains and is rated for working pressure up to 1.6 MPa, with an indoor wireless range of approximately 30m and an operating temperature range of 0–40°C.

Can the valve be used for gas as well as water?

Yes. The valve is suitable for any setup requiring water or gas control — it works with standard lever-style shut-off ball valves found in domestic, agricultural, and light industrial installations.
